Browse earthquakes in the past 24 hours or past 30 days in map mode or data feed mode. Use the slider to quickly filter earthquakes by magnitude.

Get push notifications for earthquakes globally or at up to four custom specific locations. For each location you choose to monitor, you set the cutoff magnitude and radius. These earthquake notifications have a built-in epicenter map on iOS and watchOS. Tap a notification in the iOS Notification Center to jump to the detailed view for that earthquake.

Set a custom location in feed mode to find the closest recent earthquakes to that location and to populate distances for all earthquakes relative to the custom location.

Tap on an earthquake to show more details including depth and "Felt By" numbers.

Drilling into a specific earthquake also reveals options to:

1. jump to the USGS event webpage
2. plot cities near the epicenter with their populations

Also included:
- A Today View Widget for quick access to earthquakes in the past hour. Tap an earthquake from this table to jump to its specific page in the app.
- A watchOS app for access to the past hour of earthquakes, including zoomable maps, "Felt By" numbers, and depths.
- 3D touch the app icon to bypass the main app menu in convenient ways.

A Recent Earthquake News section: find news from 1,600+ cited sources quickly on a map or in a table view tagged by state alphabetically. Set up your own custom state feed with the state toggles.

Please read the App Help File for more specific usage information.

All data is from the USGS (United States Geological Survey).

Pros and cons of Earthquake Monitor app for iPhone and iPad

Earthquake Monitor app good for

As someone who lives in California this app is a must have. Makes you appreciate how much the earth is moving around.
I have been using this app, along with two others, for six days. Of these, this app seems to have the most reasonable default notification settings - moderate quakes near me, and major quakes worldwide. Other apps alert me to minor quakes worldwide (alert overload) and imperceptible quakes near me, and want me to make in-app-purchases (IAP) to change the settings. Unfortunately, many quakes have the Possible Tsunami tag line added, unnecessary. Im pretty sure a 4.1 quake is hardly likely of triggering even the most localized of tsunamis…

Some bad moments

With the Earthquake Monitor app I can set it to notify me if an earthquake occurred within a selectable distance around me as well as being able to set the magnitude level of the earthquake. Initially I set it to all earthquakes of magnitude 1 or greater to verify that the notifications were working. I got a notification in less than 30 minutes. The notification came with a distinctive audio alert so as to easily discern that it was an earthquake notification. Also there is a tsunami alert capability such that if an earthquake is judged to be capable of creating a tsunami then I would get notified of those regardless of the range or magnitude setting. The app also has a list capability showing all earthquakes occurrences in the last 24 hours. There is a unique slider at the top of the list such that I can quickly filter the list to earthquakes of a certain magnitude or greater. This is the only app I have seen that lets me quickly filter the earthquake list to precise magnitude level. Other apps Ive seen are more general, e.g. any quake greater than magnitude 5. Earthquake time listings are automatically adjusted for my local time zone. Most apps Ive seen display the earthquake occurence in GMT time. Also, earthquakes can be displayed as distance and bearing from my location. So I can easily sort the list by distance so that I can see earthquakes that are close to me. In summary Earthquake Monitor is a very nice and free earthquake app.
Even though there havent been any in my area, its still awesome to have this data on hand, at any time!
If youre studying or tracking earthquakes, this app is great! Its very accurate all around the globe! As of now, the app is free(which is good!). The updates are not too expensive with special incentives for the user. This keeps users "tuned in" and always up to date with the latest on global earthquakes.
Im liking this app more and more now. It works great . I like to be able to see nearby cities as well. I used to have the app from the Red Cross for years but they recently updated it and it is now the worst of them all. Thank You
With the ads switch in this update to Google, tell us what info is shared w/them. Its not enuf to say what isnt. Google makes its $ selling our privacy & we need transparency what its really costing us & what is being collected by whom. We should have an opt out. Its really nobodys business, except its mfr, what I do with an app!
App was hard to find at first (keyword earth quake wasnt showing it but USGS did) App functions great and is customizable on distance and magnitude alerts. On the Santas list the ability to change the sound to something more alert (louder) if needed. Easy to use!
